I have had the honor and privilege to work with Brian for over a decade with high school teams, club teams, and collegiate camps. His passion for helping student-athletes make personal discoveries and unlock what's possible for themselves and their teams is something truly wonderful to observe.
One of the first things on my calendar each fall is scheduling Brian Kenney to do teambuilding with our girls. He has a unique way of blending fun activities and discussion/follow-up that gets to the heart of what our team needs to create chemistry and accountability. Brian can quickly analyze a team in a variety of ways and guide the discussion to get to the core of matters that need to be addressed. We've had significant success in part because of our team chemistry every year, and Brian is a big part of that!
Every year is different - he brings a wide variety of activities and challenges that create opportunities for our players to have to work together to complete tasks - then afterward figure out what happened and how it affects our team moving forward - and therefore get to know each other in a deeper way and create an atmosphere of collaboration and accountability.
I consider Brian a part of our program, and it's not unusual for him to connect with girls who have been on our team when they go on to the college ranks! I wouldn't start a season without his involvement.
Our team has been blessed to work with Brian for many years. The girls always look forward to our team building day. Brian’s activities are not only created for laughs and excited, but they are also geared toward encouraging the girls to look deeper into what kind of player/person they are. Through this discovery, they learn a lot about themselves but also about their teammates. These types of connections are a perfect way to start our season and are also great conversation starters as we face challenges throughout our season.
Brian has helped our entire volleyball program develop team-building and leadership skills on and off the court. He has been a huge contributor to the success that Hartford has had in the last few years. We love having Brian in our gym to interact with our student-athletes, as he continues to create and reinforce a positive culture and climate at Hartford!
Our team-building day with Brian is always looked forward to by our athletes. He is very personable and truly cares about all the athletes and teams he works with.
Brian takes simple, fun games and creates an environment where student-athletes can open up to one another and allow their teammates to get a better image of the discomfort, fear, anxiety, joy, hope and happiness each of them is feeling. The athletes get to know each other at such a deep level. It is also a great way to break down barriers between athletes of different grade levels and help blend unique and diversified teams into one.
A testimonial about Brian cannot go without mentioning the affirmation paper plate activity. It is truly the grand finale that gives me chills and brings me to tears every year. What a special way to start a season on a positive note, especially one you can look back upon for years to come.
Finally, as a thank him for all he does for our teams, we have created an Arcadia tradition with Brian by serving him the best authentic Mexican Tacos and Elote, catered by a former volleyball player and her family's taco truck Guac 'n Roll. Then for dessert, the best Tres Leche cake around. It is a great way to end our time together and it is a lasting tradition that creates lifelong memories for the team.
We cannot thank Brian enough for all he has done for our teams and our coaching staff.
Brian did a fabulous job working with both our students and staff. The workshop for our students included group presentations and super fun hands-on activities. The students really enjoyed working with Brian and his message resonated with them. The day was a nice change of pace from their normal school day. Our students loved working together and team building in a way they don’t normally do. He worked with our 4th, 8th, and 11th graders and the message was different for each group, but equally engaged.
